We’re always looking for new spots to brunch, and Café Marmotte {290 South Downing Street, Denver; 303.999.0395} is a brand new must-visit in Wash Park. Forget snobby French fare—this cozy bistro is doing it right with approachable, authentic dishes like Eggs Benedict, French Omelettes, French Toast, and tons more. Here’s the scoop on our latest taste test.
Brunch booze
Plenty of great options here for those who prefer a boozy brunch. The Bacon Old Fashioned is a tempting way to wake up with bacon-infused whiskey, orange, and brandied cherry. Or for something equally warming, the High Tea brings heat with Earl Grey-infused gin, lemon, and lavender syrup (served hot). And for those who like to kick it with bubbly in the morning, Marmotte also offers bottomless mimosas.
We opted to try some of our favorite morning staples—Bloody Marys and Bellinis. Both were fully worth getting out of bed for, with quality ingredients and signature Marmotte presentation.

And there’s also a secret brunch libation created by Chef de Cuisine Vanessa Bobet: the “Oui Chef.” Ask for this off-menu cocktail by name, and you’ll get the perfect effervescent drink to get you going in the morning: Jean-Phillipe Blanquette de Limoux Brut sparkling rosé, ruby Port, and a single raspberry.
Café Marmotte brunch fare
It’s hard to find a more beautiful plate than at Café Marmotte. Their attention to detail gets two thumbs up, as does their service. First we got down with their Croque Madame, served on crispy, buttery brioche—no soggy bread here—and boy are we grateful for the refreshing crunch that this dish brings. The Serrano ham and cave aged Gruyère set this apart, and the sunnyside egg and sauce choron, a variation of béarnaise, bring it all together.

While the Báhn Mì may seem like a stretch from French, think again. We’re pleased to report that Marmotte can put a French twist on anything, so forget what you know and check out this heavenly plate of pork belly and cucumber/daikon/carrot “hash” with a Sriracha hollandaise that brings a splash of spice to each bite. The chicken liver pâté is as French as it gets, and served on the side so you can spread on as you please.
Ambience
We love the white tablecloths, cozy setting, ample window seats, and Bonobo Pandora station at Café Marmotte. It genuinely feels like an upscale experience, without being out of touch or over the top. For us, it’s an ideal brunch stop and we wholly look forward to eating our way through the entire menu.
