The airport is, generally, an awful place. And while we’ve got to give DIA props for being relatively rad and definitely speedy, the experience of frantic flyers and rocky takeoffs is something we can’t help but dread. That’s why we’re glad to have Root Down DIA {Concourse C; 303.342.6959} around to help make our travels a little bit easier to stomach. Here are our picks for pre-flight drinks and sammies.
Root Down DIA Drinks
You’ve got to curb that airport anxiety somehow, and Root Down knows how to help. Their selection of beer, wine, bubbles, and cocktails is impressive to say the least (and a total godsend to say the most). Their signature Beet Down is a crowd favorite, with gin, Aperol, beets, lemon, and mint. Or for something simpler and stiff, reach for the bourbon-ful Don Draper.
Root Down Veggie Burger
This is one of our very favorites from the original restaurant, and we’re so pleased it’s available at the airport for all of us weary travelers. The pretzel bun Veggie Burger with avocado, arugula, and jalapeño jam is totally over-the-top delicious. Oh, and let’s not forget about the sweet potato fries with mint-garlic yogurt sauce: sweet, refreshing, and perfectly guilt-free. It’s nothing short of a religious experience.
Croque Madame
We never thought we’d be the kind of people who voluntarily got elbow-deep in runny egg at the airport, but, hey, there’s no going back now. The Croque Madame is decadent and flawless, loaded up with Black Forest ham, Swiss cheese, golden raisin mostarda, and watercress. Just wash the paws after or your seat-mate might cast looks of judgment (and jealousy) on the plane.
