Black Pearl

Denver’s popular Wash Park neighborhood is known for its historic bungalow-style homes, active lifestyle, and cozy eateries. We’ve got favorite spots for everything from burgers to brunch to Japanese in the neighborhood. Here are the best places to eat in Wash Park.

Brunch

Black Pearl {1529 South Pearl Street; 303.777.0500}

A Pearl Street staple, this beloved restaurant is known for its contemporary American cuisine, like their brunchtime Tomatillo Benedict or their Red Velvet Waffle. The Black Pearl has a network of producers it works with for its fresh, local ingredients. Bonus: Bottomless brunch mimosas you can sip on the patio.

Café Marmotte {290 South Downing Street; 303.999.0395}

Little sister to Telluride’s famed bistro, La Marmotte, Chef Mark Regiannini has brought his updated French classics to Denver. Brunch recently launched here with dishes like an Avocado and Heirloom Tomato Benedict with beet hollandaise, and a Croque Madame that you can pair with a Bacon Old Fashioned or the secret rosé-Port Oui Chef cocktail (ask for it by name). By night, those in the know sit bar-side, where you can enjoy a $25 special: Coq au Vin with a glass of wine.

Happy hour

Kaos Pizzeria {1439 South Pearl Street; 303.733.5267}

The best place to be on a lazy summer afternoon is the shady garden patio at Kaos, listening to live music and sipping a Colorado craft brew. A cute Victorian converted into a no-frill pizzeria, the menu has craveable classics like Baked Ziti and of course, wood-fired pizzas. (We like their Proscuitto pie). Their daily happy hour is the perfect way to recharge.

Lunch

Izakaya Den {1487A South Pearl Street; 303.777.0691}

The concept of small, delicious plates (think Japanese tapas) alongside a carefully curated drinks menu has arrived in Denver, thanks to Izakaya Den. You can get Ramen (try the Tan Tan Men), Grilled Salmon Collar, and Rice Bowls (we like the Yakiniku Bowl) served with Udon Soup. Wash it down with a selection from their extensive list of traditional sakes.

Lunch to-go

Park Burger { 1890 South Pearl Street; 720.242.9951}

Local chain Park Burger is our go-to for an all-out ultimate burger experience. Build your own gourmet burger or order The Royale with bleu cheese, bacon, and caramelized onions. Like it spicy? Try The Chilango, topped in cheddar, jalapenos, and guacamole.

First date (or cocktails!)

Beatrice & Woodsley {38 South Broadway Street; 303.777.3505}

At the west edge of the Wash Park neighborhood (technically also Baker), lies one of Denver’s most magical places. The space unravels a story of a woodcutter in love with a landowner’s daughter. When they run off together, he builds her a wooded wonderland covered in twinkle lights and aspen branches. Sip the Wayward Englishman, served on the rocks with Seagrams gin, St-Germain, simple syrup, lime juice, cucumber, and dill with a prosecco finish. Oh, and you might consider staying for the food, too (or coming back for brunch)—it’s delicious.

Dinner in Wash Park

Telegraph {295 South Pennsylvania Street; 303.440.9846}

Chef Brian Wilson brings us an eclectic and inventive menu of dishes created from seasonal and local ingredients. Try the Squid Ink Vermicelli with scallops, Fresno chiles, and tarragon salsa verde, or the Duck Two Ways, with both breast and rillettes, served with cherry compote.

Late night

Blackbird {305 South Downing Street; 303.733.3923}

This corner eatery is a popular family favorite and one of the best places to eat in Wash Park, serving elevated pub grub in a casual setting. Known for their $1 Oyster Tuesdays, they also serve classics like Burgers and Fried Chicken. Try one of their craft beers or cocktails.
