Twist it. Dip it. Salt it. Chomp it. April 26 is National Pretzel Day, so we have rounded up the six best places in Denver and Boulder to celebrate the blue-collar, beer paired favorite.
Arvada Tavern
The Arvada Tavern {5707 Olde Wadsworth Boulevard, Arvada; 303.690.6269} is home to one of the most glorious pretzel creations a beer has ever had the pleasure of accompanying: the Tavern Pretzel, stuffed with cheddar, mozzarella, and green chile, and served with a housemade cheese sauce. In order to celebrate National Pretzel Day properly, Executive Chef Timothy Hefty recommends enjoying the cheesy delight with a Dishwater Double IPA from the Telluride Brewing Company—we don’t disagree.
Rhein Haus Denver
Relatively new to Denver, Rhein Haus {1415 Market Street, Denver; 303.800.2652} is a tremendous German-style beer hall that dishes out housemade german dishes, tons of beer, and obviously, pretzels. Face-off in a bocce ball match while you lather your housemade pretzel in an incredible sauce of your choice: spicy honey mustard, Emmenthal-beer fondue, Obatzda, horseradish cream cheese, salted caramel-peanut butter, or chocolate ganache.
Schnibs Pretzels
Originally from the East Coast, Paul Stecklein and Jamie Agostinelli wanted to create a product to complement Colorado’s robust beer scene. All of Schnibs’ pretzels are made from scratch daily, and since they only make pretzels, they receive the full undivided attention that they deserve. For National Pretzel Day, keep it simple with their Classic Salted. The slightly sweet dough, classic pretzel hue, and flavorful crust, plus a pop of salt to balance out the taste.
Organic Sandwich Co.
“It was all over from there,” says Owner Marcy Miller of the pretzel roll samples she tasted from baker Brad Lappin. At Organic Sandwich Co. {1500 Pearl Street, Boulder; 720.639.3986}, you can order your sandwich on this perfected pretzel roll. We think the salty flavor would go beautifully with the Turkey and Bacon Jam or the Spicy Veggie.
Grateful Bread Company
Does a jalapeño Tillamook cheddar pretzel intrigue you? We thought it might. Thats what the Grateful Bread Company {425 Violet Street, Golden; 303.681.5406} is serving up for National Pretzel Day. Their handmade artisan pretzels are made the traditional way, developed by European monks centuries ago, and popularized in the U.S. by Pennsylvania Dutch immigrants. Owner Jeff Cleary grew up in Pennsylvania, where he learned to bake and gained appreciation for artisan techniques and locally sourced ingredients, and brought that passion to Colorado. Sadly, the bakery is only open on Saturdays from 10am-2:30pm, so you’ll have to wait until the 30th to try these gems.

Sweet Cow
If by the end of National Pretzel Day you are thinking that your mouth can’t handle any more salty goodness, think again. The pretzel cone at Sweet Cow {multiple locations} is the perfect medium for a palate-refreshing scoop of Bavarian chocolate ice cream. The sweet chocolate and the salty cone blend harmoniously, inciting your tastebuds to spend the other 364 days of the year yearning for National Pretzel Day to return.
